报告人简介:

Feng Liu, Professor and Chair, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Utah. He received his PhD in Chemical Physics from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1990. Prof. Liu is a fellow of American Physical Society and recipient of Senior Humboldt Award. His research interest lies in theoretical and computational studies of low-dimensional nano and quantum materials, with a most recent focus on topological materials. He is also a co-founder of two high-tech start-up companies. He has published 290+ refereed publications, including 60+ Physical Review Letters, 2 Nature, 2 Nature Materials, 2 PNAS, 1 Chem. Rev., 5 Nature Communications, 11 Nano Letters, 4 ACS Nano, 3 Advanced Materials, 1 JACS, ~10 book chapters, and ~20 invited reviews/papers, with H-index 68.

报告摘要:

   我觉得自己非常幸运!从小学到初中无忧无虑地玩着,没啥作业,也很少考试。上高中了,中国恢复了高考,只用了两年功,就顺利地上了大学。大学毕业了,中国搞改革开放,又读了两年书,就莫名其妙的出国留学了。接下来博士毕业、博士后、然后摇身一变成了教授自己带上博士、博士后了。今天我将利用这个机会跟大家分享一些作为一位美国大学教授我的简单生活。我将从教学、科研、服务三个方面介绍部分我的工作,包括近年来我们研究组预言和发明的两类新材料:有机拓扑绝缘体 (Organic Topological Insulator)和纳烯电热涂料(NanoxeneTMelectrothermal coating)。

   我希望能和大家一起讨论科学和技术发明 --- 科学发明是创造人类过去没有的新知识来更好地理解世界;技术发明是创造世界过去没有的新东西来更好地服务人类。
